1929 Boat House
Located at the northern tip of Manhattan, Columbia University’s crew facility replaces three existing shell storage/repair buildings with a single new structure with three shell bays and an aerobics facility on the mezzanine.
A balcony faces the water and affords a spectacular view of the picturesque convergence of the Hudson and Harlem Rivers at Spuyten Duyvil. The project site is a boulder landfill and, therefore, highly constricted and environmentally sensitive. Among other constraints, it required extensive improvements, including compliance with Department of Environmental Conservation requirements for previous fill to prevent runoff into the river.
