Purchase Libary

The extension of the library for the State University College at Purchase capitalized on a previously underground and unused shelled space.  The new 58,000 sq ft expansion is organized around a cubic atrium and monumental stair connecting to the original library's first floor. As one descends down the central staircase, one discovers an expansive space flooded with natural light from the skylights above. 

The new library extension provides reading rooms, stack areas for 3,000,000 books, special collection storage, librarians’ offices, a lecture hall, a print shop, sound-insulated music practice, and listening rooms, plus maintenance areas
